October 2008 After-School Arts at Riverview

After-School Arts, an education program of the Durango Arts Center, offers terrific arts classes, creative concepts and projects for art-loving kids. Every Wednesday throughout the school year, Riverview students can acquire new skills, learn new techniques, express ideas and feelings, and explore their own unique artistic personality. After-School Arts offers kids the opportunity to work with artists and art educators who are chosen for their dedication to education in the arts and their own particular strengths as artists.

Have you heard about The Docent Program?
The Docent Program is a committee of volunteers supported by DAC staff who guide tours in the DAC art galleries as well as lead programs in local classrooms to enhance elementary age student’s knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the arts. Docents present both classical and contemporary artwork and a sampling of an artist’s work, followed by a “hands on” art experience in the style of the artist. Thanks to Bank of the San Juans for their funding support which helps to create reproductions of artists’ work for presentation in the classroom, art supplies for hands-on projects in both the classroom and in the Gallery and administrative support.
The DAC Docents have presented 47 classroom presentations and 7 gallery tours to 1,147 individuals since Jan. 2006! Are your kids one of them? If you’d like to learn more about this program – contact us at 259-260
